Hawthorne Community Center Feasibility Study

………………………………….

PROJECT PROFILE

On the near West side of Indianapolis, the Hawthorne Community Center has provided important social services to their neighborhood and community since 1923. The mission of the Center is to provide or facilitate services and programs that meet the economic, educational, social, civic and recreational needs of the entire Hawthorne Community. However, this 21st century community center is currently operating in 20th century facilities that are not allowing it to reach its full potential. With programs split between two buildings and their population increasing, the Hawthorne Community Center decided to evaluate the options for renovation, expansion, or relocation. The feasibility study analyzed the Center’s current program and developed 3 potential options for expansion and/or renovation. The study concluded that a new facility at the nearby Central Greens property gives the Hawthorne the most potential to expand its impact on the West side. A building concept was developed to kick off their capital campaign. The scheme is a sustainable facility that utilizes an indoor street and exterior gathering spaces to promote learning and interaction within the community.
